ANC Committees Open to Residents
By Marc Borbely, 536 13th St. NE
At the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6A meeting on Jan. 2, ANC Chairman Joseph Fengler invited any residents interested in joining a committee to contact the committee's chairman as soon as possible. Committee memberships are scheduled to be approved at the Feb. 13 meeting.
According to Mr. Fengler, the Economic Development and Zoning Committee (with Commissioner Cody Rice serving as chairman) will handle zoning variances and matters related to commercial and residential development; the Alcohol Beverage Licensing and Public Safety Committee (with Commissioner Jessica Ward as chairman) will deal with liquor license renewal and approval and will serve as the focal point for concerns relating to public safety; and the Community Outreach Committee (with Commissioner Michael Musante as chairman) will handle the initial review of all community grant applications.
The ANC changed the day of its monthly meetings. Starting in February, meetings will be held on the second Thursday of every month, at 7 p.m., at Miner Elementary School (601 15th St. NE). Last year, they had been held on the first Thursday of every month.
The January meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., started at 7:03 p.m. and ended at 9 p.m. (Last year, meetings usually began more than 15 minutes late.)
All commissioners were present when the meeting was called to order except for Gladys Mack and Wanda Harris, who entered at 7:08 and 7:10, respectively, and except for Commissioner Colleen Harris, who was absent. At 8:20 p.m., there were 10 people at the meeting in addition to the commissioners.§
