Howard Dean For President

By David Kinsey, 524 13th St. NE

With the presidential election coming up sooner than you think, it's time to begin contemplating who should be our next leader. The Democrats have a slew of candidates vying for the nomination of the party.

The only problem is they all look exactly like one another, except for one individual: Howard Dean.

Mr. Dean is a former Vermont governor who held office from 1991 to 2003. He is a physician who believes universal health care should be a reality for all our citizens. He implemented his plan, and every child under the age of 18 was guaranteed coverage, and more than 92 percent of adults in Vermont are now eligible for coverage as well.

Mr. Dean is also against the war with Iraq. He is a staunch supporter of our troops abroad. However, he believes President Bush has fallen short in proving the case that Iraq is an imminent threat to America or its allies.

When it comes to the economy, Mr. Dean has it right again. Fiscal responsibility in the Bush administration has been shelved, and the top 1 percent of Americans are reaping the benefits. Dean would repeal the tax cuts that have only made the rich richer.

Mr. Dean, unlike his fellow Democrats, supports equal justice for all Americans without apology. He is responsible for signing Vermont's civil union legislation for gays and lesbians into law. He is quoted as saying, "This was a defining moment in my political career. ... There can be no compromise when it comes to basic human rights."

To put it simply, Mr. Dean is the right man for the job in 2004. Mr. Bush has robbed Social Security, ruined our foreign relations, shelved our civil liberties with the passage of the Patriot Act, and will only deny us more of the liberties we, as citizens of the United States of America, are entitled to. Mr. Bush has proven he lacks respect for the nation's laws and institutions and he needs to be reminded that we did not elect him, and we will not allow him to continue to destroy the prosperity our country once knew.

Please show your support for Mr. Dean by going to his Web site now at http://www.deanforamerica.com. Chances are you'll be convinced, like I am, that the Doctor is in, and it's time for a change in America. §
