City to Seek Input on the Future of Former Maryland Avenue Fire Station

Juanita Britton (442-7253), spokeswoman for the D.C. Office of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), left the following voicemail on July23, in response to a question by Marc Borbely, 536 13th St. NE, about the city's plans for the former firehouse at 1341 Maryland Ave. NE. Signs on the outside of the building indicate that DHCD is in charge of it.

Hi Marc, this is Juanita calling from Housing and Community Development. Just wanted to update you on that property.

Currently there's nothing being done with the property. DHCD plans to come out to the community and share where we're at with it.

We do plan, in fiscal 2004 [which begins this October] to do an RFP [request for proposals] for development. But we've got to get with the community to understand the kinds of things that the community would like to see, and that's how we put our RFP out.

We're actually using it for storage, as well. We're keeping it clean, and grass cut and all that sort of thing, but no plans for development right now. Give me a call back if you have any more questions. §
